Specialised Labs

To help students gain important practical experience and conduct advanced research, we have specialised laboratories at Amity University Dubai. The work and methods used are in line with current industry standards, ensuring students gain the experience they need to comfortably transition from university to a competitive workplace environment.

B.Tech Aerospace Engineering

Our advanced labs give students a competitive edge as they provide students with great insight and first-hand experience of what they can expect in their future careers in the field of Aerospace Engineering.

The Propulsion Lab allows the R&D for Gas Turbine Engine through the high end Mini Gas Turbine equipment.

In the lab you’ll find:

  • Amity Satellite Ground Station
  • Various piston engine models and gas turbine models
  • Impulse and reaction turbine benches

The Aerodynamics Laboratory features:

  1. A vortex apparatus
  2. A 2.20 m long wind tunnel capable of producing air velocities between 1 and 35 m/s
  3. Two-component dynamometer with digital force display
  4. Velocity meter
  5. Smoke generator
  6. X-y traversing boundary layer
  7. Pitot-static tube probes
  8. A 10 port pressure transducer
  9. A/D readout meter display with signal conditioners
  10. A calibration set

The Vibration Laboratory includes:

  1. The Universal Vibration Apparatus
  2. Slipping Friction Apparatus
  3. Whirling of Shaft apparatus
  4. Vibro-Viscometer

 Mechanical Engineering

Our Mechanical Engineering workshop has five different sections that provide students with hands-on experience. The five sections are, The Machines Shop, The Welding Shop, The Foundry Shop, The Sheet Metal Shop and The Fitting Shop. Amity students use the lab to gain expertise in the usage of machines, equipment, tools and measuring instruments.

The Machine Shop includes lathe machines, a radial drilling machine, milling machine, shaping machine, grinding machine and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Lathe.

The Welding Shop has Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding, Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding, Oxy-Acetylene gas welding and Arc Welding.

All the latest tools and equipment required for mould preparation for foundry, sheet metal work and fitting work are available in the workshop.

You’ll also find experimental setups for the Engineering Mechanics Lab to study the principles of mechanics.

Our Heat Transfer laboratory provides fundamental and industrial knowledge about modes of heat transfer, like conduction, convection and radiation, and their applications.

Kinematics of machine lab provides the practical knowledge about various mechanisms and their applications. Student will go explore various experiments of different mechanism like cam-follower mechanism, gears and gear train.

Forensic Sciences

Our state-of-the-art laboratory has been built to train aspiring forensic scientists in different areas including fingerprinting, DNA profiling, toxicological analysis, trace evidence analysis, questioned documents and handwriting examinations.

Students undertake simulated casework, applying search and recovery methods to examine physical evidence on simulated crime scenes.

Our laboratories are equipped with instruments and apparatus which are currently used in real forensic casework by different police organisations. Here is a list of the instruments that are included.

Forensic Optical Comparator

The CSI Comparator has been designed and manufactured to very high standards to give clear, crisp, magnified images without distortion. It allows for a side-by-side examination of fingerprints or printed material.
Amity University Dubai

Stereomicroscopes And Compound Microscopes

Used for the comparison and analysis of trace evidence, including hairs and fibres. It is also used in forensic serology to view certain samples such as blood and urine.

Double Beam UV Spectrophotometer

Spectrophotometry is an extremely important tool in this field. The success of any criminal investigation largely depends on forensic science, which requires specifics and details regarding any particular facet of science. Understanding a specific item's detailed and fundamental composition assists in determining the brand, manufacturing,

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR)

A Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR) is an instrument used to examine specimens, both to detect the presence of target compounds and to measure the quantities of the compounds. FTIR can be an important analytical instrument in a forensic investigation. A FTIR can be useful in detecting both organic chemicals (i.e., those that contain carbon) and inorganic chemicals.

HS-GC (Headspace Gas Chromatography)

This is used for alcohol analysis in blood by using direct injection gas chromatography (GC) or headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) with flame ionisation detection (FID). Between the two, headspace is preferred over direct injection, because HS-GC takes advantage of the volatility of alcohol and an extraction procedure is not necessary.

ESDA (Electrostatic Detection Apparatus) Docustat DS-220

ESDA which stands for Electrostatic Detection Apparatus, is a machine used within forensics for document examination. The machine allows the visualisation of indented writing without damaging the document.
Amity University Dubai

PROJECTINA INSPEC-8

It is used for the analysis and examination of questioned documents like passports, banknotes, and security paper, in the visual and infrared range as well as short and long UV.
Amity University Dubai

High Speed Centrifuge

Centrifuges are used in medical labs, crime labs, and chemistry labs alike to separate substances into parts according to density. This is important for many medical tests as well as in forensic use. Setting the centrifuge to the right speed is vital to obtain the proper separation.
