Amity University Dubai organise conference on computational intelligence with IEEE

Scientists, researchers, scholars and practitioners from all across the globe gathered under one roof to participate in the IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Knowledge Economy (ICCIKE 2019) organised by Amity University Dubai.

With artificial intelligence at the forefront of recent advances worldwide, it is vital that we build on our knowledge of computational intelligence to understand and learn more about the future of the industry and the adjacent categories that will be positively impacted. Through this conference, Amity University Dubai aims to encourage research into areas and industries that are flourishing and growing, moving beyond the traditional pillars of Computational Intelligence to build knowledge within new and ever evolving computational paradigms.

The interactive platform saw participants share knowledge, ideas, models and techniques through keynote speeches, paper presentations and panel discussions over two days. ICCIKE attracted over 400 papers from 31 countries, with the review committee finally selecting 157 papers that were presented in 17 different sessions.

The conference opened with an inaugural ceremony that included the launch of the Conference Proceedings and Abstracts Book, which was followed by a key note speech from Professor of Electrical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology Dubai, Dr. Abdulla Ismail. Distinguished scientist and professor of computing at the University of Milan, Italy, Dr. Vincenzo Piuri also addressed the 450 guests in attendance.

From school age students, engineering graduates and postgraduates to fellow scholars and industry experts, ICCIKE 2019 attracted attendance from anyone with an interest in computational intelligence and its various segments. Several interesting areas of study such as Autonomous Football Robots, detection of Rheumatoid Arthritis using Machine Learning, Audio-Visual Speech Recognition, Transport Accident Prevention Analysis, Big Data and the Digital Universe were presented. The conference also included a panel discussion on artificial intelligence in the aerospace industry which was attended by a large number of students enrolled in Amity Dubai’s Aerospace Engineering programme.

Amity Education President and Chancellor, Dr. Atul Chauhan said, “The UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the UAE’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy 2031, marking a new level of innovation for all Smart Government initiatives. As the region heads towards building Artificial Intelligence technologies and tools that will enhance government performance and efficiency, it is important that we do the same. Our goal is to play a large role in the future of the UAE through quality education and increased opportunities for students. The presented papers and panel discussions were selected to ignite new trends and developments in a globally competitive environment, while also providing future direction to young researchers and practitioners.”
