With the objective of enhancing the digital evaluation experience offered to graduates, Amity University Dubai planned the first-of-its-kind virtual runway show to assess the work of graduating Fashion Design students online. The online platform aimed to exhibit the talent, competency and skills learnt during a student’s 4-year Fashion Design undergraduate programme at Amity Dubai.
Organised jointly by the University’s Fashion Design and Media Studies Departments, the event took attendees on a journey through the eyes of a student, under the theme “Illusions”. The show began with student models walking their home-runways in designs created by students, this was followed by a virtual runway that included every graduating student’s collection. Amity’s Media Studies students created animated models that wore virtual garments designed by final year Fashion Design students. Event attendees learned more about the designing process, ideas and concepts used by each student.
Mohammed Abdullah, Managing Director of Dubai International Academic City and Dubai Knowledge Park joined the fashion show as Chief Guest, along with a number of other fashion designers and industry professionals from around the world that showed their support.
The covid-19 crisis has lead staff and students to create new ideas and ways to impart knowledge and test a student’s abilities. Priority was given to showcasing their incredible designs, but also the thoughtful process and inspiration, which often gets lost in a physical runway format.
