Mr. Abraham Samuel is an accomplished architect with expertise in design and construction project management. He is currently the Programme Leader of Architecture at Amity University Dubai. Mr. Abraham holds a Master of Science in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, UK, and is a PhD scholar at the University of Bordeaux, France. His teaching philosophy emphasises coaching, mentoring, and guiding design work and practices based on creative thinking and technical expertise, bringing ideas to constructive outputs with form and spatial experiences and enhanced performance with problem-based approaches. 

He is actively engaged in research on bioclimatic and sustainable architecture for warm climatic regions, energy and water conservation systems, and other areas related to the built environment.

Mr. Abraham has been involved in several prestigious design projects, including being a team member of Team Baitykool that, won the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 award with 3rd place overall and winning seven contests for house performance. He was also a faculty mentor and team member for the winning EXPO LIVE 2020, University Innovation Programme Grantees Project LESOLARIUM.  

His extensive industry experience includes involvement in the design and commissioning of architectural and interior design projects in India, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar. He is a founder member of DESIGNWORKS, an interdisciplinary design practice offering services under the domains of architecture, interior design, communication design, and education. Dr. Samuel has taught architecture at various institutions, including PiCA, Mahatma Education Society Navi Mumbai & Rizvi College of Architecture Mumbai, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai. He is also an Executive Board Member at the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) Dubai.

  • Research on Bioclimatic architecture as a sustainable response to the problem of buildings in extreme warm climates. Experimentation on the active and passive strategies of the Baitykool prototype as a living lab based at the Sustainable City Dubai to analyze the thermal comfort condition and the energy demand. Development of an energy balance strategy optimized the energy use for the house functioning with the energy powered solar. The Baitykool prototype won the 3rd Place along with winning seven awards under the building design & performance category. 
  • An EXPO LIVE 2020 funded project, ‘LESOLARIUM’ under the UIP Grantees, UAE has designed and developed a water filtration prototype along with the Students of Amity University Dubai to treat the Mosque ablution water giving is back the tap water quality applicable for reuse. The working prototype demonstrated at the Place Pavilion at EXPO 2020. Working progressing with the phase II of commissioning as a mosque with research and development on operational benefits and adaptive use creating sustainable applications.
