Shadi Al Hroub is an internationally recognised design educator, practice-led researcher, and creative practitioner with more than 17 years of experience across higher education and the creative industries. His expertise spans fashion communication, branding, visual communication, creative direction, design strategy, visual storytelling, and contemporary creative practice.
He has taught at higher education institutions across the UAE, Jordan, and Oman, including the Higher Colleges of Technology, Middle East University, American University of Madaba, and Dhofar University. His academic practice focuses on connecting conceptual thinking with professional and industry-led learning through studio education, curriculum development, interdisciplinary projects, exhibitions, emerging technologies, and applied creative practice.
Alongside academia, Al Hroub has developed an extensive international professional career in branding, communication, and creative direction. His professional engagements include work with organisations and brands such as the International Trade Centre (ITC/UN-WTO), UNRWA, Leo Burnett, Hilton Worldwide, EMPHNET, PeaceGeeks, and other international, governmental, cultural, and commercial organisations.
His creative practice has received 47 international design awards and has been represented in 37 international exhibitions across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and North America. His international recognition includes the Gold Stevie Award for Most Innovative Communications Professional of the Year 2025, international design distinctions, and representation in the permanent collection of the Tama Art University Museum, Japan.
His work has been presented through international exhibitions and design platforms in Japan, China, Spain, Cyprus, India, Oman, and other countries. He has also contributed to the international creative community through jury and evaluation roles with organisations including The One Club for Creativity, Adobe Achievement Awards, Stevie Awards, International Awards Associate, A' Design Award and Competition, Vega Digital Awards, and Athar Awards.
Al Hroub is the author of Graphic Design in Media Conception and has contributed to academic discourse in visual communication, semiotics, branding, and creative practice. He also serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Journal for Artistic Research.
His current research examines visual identity as a symbolic-affective system, exploring how visual symbols, cultural context, perception, and emotional response contribute to identity formation and meaning construction. His broader research interests include practice-led design research, fashion communication and branding, visual culture, symbolic communication, creative methodologies, design education, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence within the creative industries.
