Ms. Vidya P Mohanan is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at Amity University Dubai, with over 12 years of experience in industry and academia. She holds a Master in Structural Engineering from the University Of Manchester, UK and is pursuing her PhD from the University Of Bordeaux, France. Prior to joining academia, she worked as a Structural Engineer with Dutco Balfour Beauty, UK.

She is responsible for building and managing relationships with student chapters from various international universities to organise multicultural learning programs for built environment students at Amity University Dubai. She has developed partnerships with professional bodies such as ICE, IstructE, ASCE, CIOB, and CIBSE, which have led to the University's civil engineering programmes being the first in the region to be associated with the UK Joint Board of Members (JBM) professional institutions. Her research and teaching interests include Structural design of RCC and steel buildings, Sustainable construction, and Construction management.

Ms. Mohanan has published over ten research articles in Scopus indexed publications. She has led the development of commercially focused innovation, research, and technology development in zero-energy and sustainable construction, which resulted in winning the SDME 2018 with the prototype Baitykool. The project received a fund of 1.3 Million dollars from ADERA.

BK Lab Living lab project: The sustainable City- University of Bordeaux, France

The Baitykool prototype is functioning as living lab at the Sustainable City (TSC) Dubai working. Experimentation work is in progress in collaboration with the researchers from University of Bordeaux and the research team from the SEE Institute TSC.

i) Experimentation on the Aquaponics system at the Baitykool prototype designed as a model for residence suiting to extreme hot climate. Test conducted during the varied climatic conditions to analyze the system performance and production of food as a source of energy and its benefits to have the improved thermal comfort conditions at the house patio (Exterior Courtyard) and the indoors with health and wellness with the use of the biological system. Various water recycling strategies which can be adopted in residential building is also tested with prototype.
