International Students


Transitioning to university is never easy – and if you’re an international student who has never lived or experienced life in Dubai, things could become even hazier. We’ve compiled a list of useful websites, contact numbers and interesting facts to help you navigate the UAE.


What is an Emirates ID?

All citizens and expat residence of the UAE have to obtain an Emirates ID card. It’s an electronic identification card issued by the Emirates Identity Authority and should be carried at all times.


You’ll need this card for various reasons such as paying for utility bills, paying fines, registering vehicles, opening a bank account or acquiring a phone or internet contract. For more information, please visit or contact the visa office on 04-3671682/04-3678121.

Health insurance


During 2014 and 2016, the DHA implemented a law that requires all residents of Dubai to have health insurance. The new legislation states that companies must provide their employees with a health insurance plan that includes at least a basic level of care.


Students are able to apply for the health insurance offered by Amity University Dubai for AED 1500.
