Amity University Dubai Successfully Completes Two DEWA R&D Albaheth Projects

July 3, 2025

Amity University Dubai’s School of Engineering marked a significant achievement with the successful completion of two research projects under the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority - DEWA (R&D) Albaheth Projects. These projects were officially handed over during DEWA R&D’s annual review meeting held at MBR Solar Park on June 24, 2025.

The Albaheth program is a prestigious research and development initiative launched by DEWA to foster academic-industry collaboration and support the UAE’s vision of sustainable innovation. Through this platform, Amity University Dubai has contributed cutting-edge research aimed at solving real-world energy and engineering challenges.

Project 1: Additive Manufacturing of Nylon/Kevlar Composites Using FDM for Electrical Applications

The first project explored the fabrication of high-performance composite materials using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology. The team focused on integrating Nylon and Kevlar fibers to create lightweight, durable materials suitable for various electrical engineering applications. The project was led by Dr. Sathish Kannan, Dr. P. Harihara Sakthi Sudhan, and Dr. Logesh, and Rahmat Agung Susantyoko, Ph.D., from the DEWA R&D Center.

Project 2: Development of a Sustainable Solar-Powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

The second project aimed at addressing one of the critical limitations of conventional UAVs — limited battery life. The team developed a solar-powered UAV equipped with integrated photovoltaic cells for efficient surveying and data collection.

The team designed a UAV utilizing the Eppler 205 airfoil for optimal aerodynamic efficiency. This solar-powered approach significantly extends flight duration, making it ideal for prolonged surveying and data acquisition missions. The project culminates in a prototype demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of sustainable aerial operations. The project team included Dr. Sarath Raj, Dr. Apurv Yadav, Sradha Udayakumar, Marc, Azim, and Abdulla Alhenyami from Amity University Dubai, along with Jayakumar V.K. from DEWA R&D.

These projects exemplify the power of academic and governmental collaboration in driving forward-thinking solutions in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and smart infrastructure. With such initiatives, Amity University Dubai continues to cement its role as a hub for engineering innovation and research excellence in the region.
